Education in marine, climate and environmental research
The scientists at the ZMAW are active in teaching at the University of Hamburg. Teaching is now incorporated in the new Faculty for Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences (MIN) and Bachelor's and Master's Degree programmes are now in place for most of the disciplines.
In addition, ZMAW members are active in the International Max Planck Research Schools Maritime Affairs and Earth System Modelling as well as in the International Centre for Graduate Studies (ICGS) of the University of Hamburg.
In various externally funded research projects, students have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research. They can learn practical techniques during their study courses and at the same time experience the meaning of interdisciplinary work. They get access to the high performance computers at the German High Performance Computing Centre for Climate and Earth System Research, DKRZ, and to modern laboratories as well as the chance to take part in research cruises or measurement campaigns with research airplanes.
