Youth competition receives UNESCO Decade Project Award

The youth competition offers pupils the chance to make contact with scientists and experience research at sea. Since 2005 the Centre for Marine and Atmospheric Sciences in Hamburg held the competition. At present pupils from all provinces of northern Germany can participate. Up to now 21 pupil teams have taken their projects to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea for one week each.

The implementation of the UN Decade "Education for Sustainable Development" in Germany is coordinated by the German UNESCO Commission based on a unanimous vote by the German Federal Parliament. Its patron is the President of the Federal Republic, Horst Köhler.
