On the 19th of October 2007 the University of Hamburg was notified that its proposal for a "Cluster of Excellence" in the Second Round of the Excellence Initiative was successful. Together with its external partners, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, the GKSS Research Centre and their cooperatively used German High Performance Computing Centre for Climate- and Earth System Research, as well as further cooperating institutions (e.g. German Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, German Weather Service and Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute), the University will be able to expand its Centre for Marine and Climate Research to form the "Klima Campus Hamburg", a national centre of excellence in climate research. The Cluster of Excellence, "Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction - CliSAP" includes researchers from the natural sciences as well as from the fields of economics and social sciences from various institutes within and outside of the University. The funds allotted will amount to about 25 Mio. Euros from the Federal Government and around 9 Mio. Euros from the City of Hamburg. For further information about the cluster, please see www.clisap.de.
