GKSS Award "Intelligible Science 2006" for Dirk Notz


Results for sea ice salinity measurements using the traditional core method compared with the newly developed in situ method.

Dirk Notz of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology won second place in the GKSS competition "Intelligible Science 2006" with a presentation of his dissertation in the final round on December 12th. With this award, the GKSS Research Centre supports the dialogue between science and the public.

Dirk Notz convinced the jury with his topic "Salty sea ice - A piece in the global climate puzzle".

In addition to an award certificate, the first three winners received checks from Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kaysser, Scientific Chairmann of the GKSS. First place went to Cristina Voss from the German Cancer Research Centre.
